ALONE is an Irish national charity founded in 1976 that supports older people to age securely and independently in their own homes. Its model is built on a volunteer network of over 9,000 people and a suite of integrated services. These include support coordination, befriending to address isolation, phone services, social prescribing, practical home supports, housing with support, and assistive technology. The organisation campaigns for policy changes and the rights of older people.
The charity operates across Ireland and has grown significantly in scale. Under its current leadership, the number of people supported has increased from 200 to more than 12,000. Its work is situated within the social care and elder care sectors, addressing needs from loneliness to housing.
