AltaMed Health Services Corp is a non-profit federally qualified health center (FQHC) founded in 1969 as the East LA Barrio Free Clinic. Today it operates as one of the largest community health networks in the United States, serving more than 700,000 patients across over 70 clinics and service facilities in Los Angeles and Orange counties.
The organisation's mission centres on eliminating disparities in healthcare access and outcomes for Latino, multi-ethnic, and underserved communities. Its clinical offering spans a broad continuum of care, including:
- Primary care for patients and families
- Dental services
- Behavioral health
- HIV-related medical and support services
- Women's health, including care for mothers-to-be
- Senior programmes, including PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly)
Beyond direct clinical services, AltaMed engages in policy advocacy, health education, and community initiatives that address social determinants of health. Its affiliated philanthropic arm, the AltaMed Foundation - established in 1987 - raises millions of dollars to support community health programmes and work toward reducing healthcare disparities.
