The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning is a Victorian Government department responsible for implementing the state's climate action agenda, managing natural resources, and supporting sector resilience. It was established through the consolidation of Victoria's energy, environment, climate action, water, agriculture, and resources portfolios into a single entity with broad remit across multiple sectors.
The department leads Victoria's transition to renewable energy, overseeing the growth of solar, battery, and offshore wind projects. It sets and pursues ambitious climate targets - halving emissions by 2030 and achieving net zero by 2050 - whilst managing emergency response, preparedness and recovery across the state. The department also supports the agriculture, water and resources sectors in adapting to climate change and building resilience.
Landscape protection and biodiversity conservation form a central pillar of the department's work. It partners with Traditional Owners and other stakeholders to preserve Victoria's native environments for current and future generations. These partnerships reflect a broader commitment to inclusive decision-making that underpins its vision for a liveable and sustainable Victoria.
