Kamehameha Schools, established in 1887, is a private educational institution and charitable trust founded through the estate of Bernice Pauahi Bishop. Its mission is to improve the capability and well-being of Native Hawaiian people through education. The organisation operates three K-12 campuses across O'ahu, Hawai'i Island, and Maui, as well as 30 preschool sites statewide serving more than 1,600 children.
The schools advance a World-Class, Hawaiian Culture-Based Education (WCHCBE) approach. Its educational philosophy centres on student-centred learning, place-based environments, multicultural education, and the integration of indigenous knowledge and practices. Students and staff adhere to common learner outcomes known as E Ola!, which aim to cultivate culturally engaged servant leaders committed to strengthening their communities.
Beyond K-12 and preschool programmes, Kamehameha Schools provides scholarship services and community outreach initiatives that support Hawaiian learners of all ages. The organisation employs over 4,000 full- and part-time staff members and has served the Hawaiian community for more than 135 years.
