Luminis Health is a nonprofit regional health system serving Maryland, with care delivered across Anne Arundel County, Prince George's County, the Eastern Shore, Annapolis and the wider region. The system traces its origins to 1902, when it was founded as Annapolis Emergency Hospital in a farmhouse off Duke of Gloucester Street. Its flagship, Luminis Health Anne Arundel Medical Center, has 120 years of history and aims to be the regional referral system of choice, offering services from primary care to specialised surgical programmes.
Doctors Community Medical Center joined forces with Anne Arundel Medical Center in 2019 to form Luminis Health. Today the combined system operates nearly 100 sites of care and more than 700 inpatient beds, serving a population of 1.5 million people. Its stated mission is to deliver more high-quality care across the region and to break down barriers to health.
The workforce runs to thousands of healthcare professionals, doctors, residents and fellows, spanning hospital and inpatient care, primary care, specialised surgical programmes and graduate medical education. Luminis Health describes itself as a nationally recognised nonprofit health system, with an emphasis on dedication and compassion in serving the region and on meaningful daily impact for employees.
