Merantix was founded in Berlin in 2016 by Adrian Locher and Dr. Rasmus Rothe as an AI venture studio - a model it claims to have pioneered globally. Over eight years it has built nine AI-first companies, achieved two successful exits, and raised €10m for its holding company alongside a €30m investment fund. Global investors including SoftBank have backed companies within its portfolio.
The group operates through three interconnected pillars. Merantix Capital invests in AI-first companies from pre-seed through Series A. Merantix Momentum is an engineering unit of 60+ specialists that delivers customised machine learning solutions for clients. Merantix AI Campus is a 6,000-square-metre physical hub in Berlin that hosts more than 80 AI companies and a community of 1,600 members.
The technical focus spans artificial intelligence, machine learning, and applied AI product development. The AI Campus functions both as an operational base and as a broader ecosystem play - concentrating AI talent, startups, and capital in one location. Merantix describes its broader mission as advancing AI innovation originating from Europe.
