Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts (PPLM) is a nonprofit sexual and reproductive health care provider founded in 1928. It operates four health centers across Massachusetts and provides telehealth services statewide, forming part of a national network of more than 600 Planned Parenthood health centers. Its clinical services include birth control, abortion care, STD testing and treatment, gender-affirming hormone therapy, cancer screenings, and preventive health. The organisation is committed to providing care regardless of income, age, race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, or immigration status.
Beyond direct clinical care, PPLM runs comprehensive sex education programmes and conducts sexual and reproductive health research through its ASPIRE Center. Its affiliated 501(c)(4) organisation, the Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund of Massachusetts, leads legislative and electoral efforts to protect and expand reproductive rights at the state level, including work that has resulted in the codification of abortion rights in Massachusetts law.
PPLM's work spans several interconnected functions:
- Clinical care: Four in-person health centers and statewide telehealth services
- Education: Comprehensive sex education programmes
- Research: Clinical and public health research via the ASPIRE Center
- Advocacy: Legislative and electoral engagement through the Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund of Massachusetts
The organisation's mission centres on making sexual health a personal and public health priority. Its stated values include non-judgmental access to care and the establishment of strong patient confidentiality protections.
