Salt River Project

About

Salt River Project (SRP) is the oldest multipurpose reclamation project in the United States, born from a pivotal moment in Arizona's history when early settlers recognized the critical need to secure reliable water supplies in an arid land. In 1903, local residents came together, putting their own land up as collateral to secure federal funding for building the dams and canals that would transform the Salt River Valley into a thriving agricultural community and, eventually, one of America's fastest-growing metropolitan regions. From that bold collaboration, SRP emerged as a community-based, not-for-profit organization that would forever shape the West.

Today, SRP stands as the nation's third-largest public power utility and water provider, serving more than 2 million people in central Arizona. For over 120 years, we have delivered on our mission of providing reliable, affordable, and sustainable water and power to the Phoenix metropolitan area, consistently ranking as an industry leader in customer service according to J.D. Power and being named one of Arizona's best employers by Forbes. Our 5,000+ employees work across a broad service territory managing a 13,000-square-mile watershed, maintaining power generation and distribution infrastructure, and pioneering innovative solutions like energy efficiency rebates, renewable integration, and pumped storage projects. As we look toward Arizona's future energy needs, SRP continues to evolve, balancing our heritage of stewardship with the imperative to reimagine utility service for a changing climate and growing community.
