Scout Motors is an American electric vehicle manufacturer founded in 2022 as an independent subsidiary of Volkswagen Group. The company is reviving the Scout brand, which dates back to 1961, to engineer and build electric trucks and rugged SUVs. It combines American engineering and manufacturing with the resources of Volkswagen Group, and sells vehicles direct to consumers.
Its first two production models, the Traveler SUV and the Terra pickup truck, were unveiled in October 2024. Both use body-on-frame construction and are designed for off-road capability, with up to 500 miles of range when fitted with an optional hybrid powertrain. Technical work spans electric vehicles, hybrid powertrains, body-on-frame construction and off-road vehicle engineering.
The company is investing $2 billion in a production facility in Blythewood, South Carolina, with targeted annual capacity of 200,000 vehicles and production slated to begin in 2027. The plant is expected to create approximately 4,000 jobs. Scout Motors also has a presence in Michigan, Virginia, California and North Carolina, as well as operations in Canada.
Recruiting is aimed at what the company describes as doers, makers and explorers, across automotive manufacturing, engineering and retail roles.
