Vancity, formally Vancouver City Savings Credit Union, is a member-owned co-operative providing banking and financial services across British Columbia. Founded in 1946 by 14 founders to serve communities underserved by traditional banks, it has grown into Canada's largest community credit union, serving over 543,000 members through 54 branches. Under the co-operative model, profits are returned to members rather than shareholders.
The institution describes itself as rooted in social justice and works to remove barriers to banking access. Its activities include Indigenous banking strategies and financial resilience programmes aimed at building economic security for members and communities. Vancity is the largest private sector Living Wage Employer in Canada, and states an ambition to be a force for positive change while maintaining strong financial performance.
