The African Union is a continental multilateral organization established in 2002 and comprising 55 member states across Africa. Its mandate centres on promoting African integration, cooperation, and sustainable development. The organization represents over 400 million young Africans.
Headquartered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the African Union operates in the spheres of continental governance and multilateral cooperation. Its foundational principles are rooted in Pan-Africanism and the idea of an African Renaissance, with a stated focus on unity, self-determination, freedom, progress, and collective prosperity. The organization promotes the inclusion of citizens across the continent in its work.
