DC Water exists to provide safe, clean drinking water and reliable wastewater services to the nation's capital - serving more than 700,000 residents and over 25 million annual visitors in the District of Columbia, plus wholesale wastewater treatment for 1.8 million people in the surrounding Maryland and Virginia counties. The organization manages an extensive infrastructure network including 1,300 miles of interconnected pipes, four pumping stations, four reservoirs, three water tanks, 43,860 valves, and 9,510 fire hydrants. DC Water also operates the Blue Plains Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant, treating wastewater for the District and surrounding region.
