The Humane Rescue Alliance is a congressionally-chartered animal welfare organization with roots extending back to 1870. Formed through a merger that combined over 150 years of collective experience, it operates as the largest animal services provider in its region, with two campuses in the District of Columbia and New Jersey. The organization's work encompasses rescue, care, adoption, veterinary services, legislative advocacy, and community-based programs, touching the lives of tens of thousands of animals annually.
A key initiative is the WayStation program, described as the nation's preeminent pet transport effort. The program has moved over 20,000 animals through a network of more than 90 sheltering organizations. The Alliance also maintains the largest animal disaster response team on the East Coast.
The organization's mission focuses on protecting animals, supporting families, and advocating for positive change through its range of services and outreach efforts.
