Inversion Space is an aerospace company developing what it describes as the world's first space-based delivery vehicle, intended to carry cargo to any point on Earth in under an hour. Founded in 2021 by engineers from SpaceX and ABL, the company is working to turn orbit into a logistics and transportation platform rather than a destination. Its first spacecraft, Ray, has been launched and operated in orbit, completing more than 1,600 orbits. Arc, the delivery vehicle under development, is designed around the sub-hour global delivery target.
The company employs roughly 60 people and operates from a 55,000-square-foot facility in Los Angeles, with a test site in the Mojave Desert. Technical work spans spacecraft design and development, reentry and space-based logistics, orbital transportation systems, and rocket and launch systems. Inversion Space has raised $44m in Series A funding and holds a $71m contract with the U.S. Space Force.
Inversion Space began as a garage startup, with its co-founders leaving their jobs to pursue the project, and has grown to its current team and infrastructure over a few years. Its stated aim is to bring unprecedented speed and scale to global delivery through space-based transportation.
