Vast develops and operates commercial space stations and related hardware to enable long-term human habitation in space. Founded in 2021 by Jed McCaleb and based in Long Beach, California, the company takes an incremental, hardware-rich approach to building the infrastructure needed for a multiplanetary human presence.
The company's Haven Demo spacecraft was successfully deployed into orbit in November 2025 and operated by Vast, making it the only operational commercial space station company to have flown and operated its own spacecraft. Haven-1, targeted for launch in 2027, is designed to be the world's first commercial space station. Subsequent Haven-2 modules are intended to succeed the International Space Station.
Beyond near-term commercial operations, Vast is developing artificial gravity stations designed for deployment by 2035. These systems aim to enable humans to live and work in space without long-term physiological degradation. The company has assembled a team of spaceflight engineers and manufacturers to execute this roadmap, moving from concept through operational deployment at a pace that compresses timelines historically measured in decades.
