MARTA is the principal public transit agency serving the Atlanta metropolitan area. Founded in 1971, the agency operates a multimodal network that includes a rapid rail system spanning 48 miles with 38 subway stations, an extensive bus network, the Atlanta Streetcar, and MARTA Mobility paratransit services. Since the rail system opened in 1979, MARTA has facilitated over 5 billion trips.
The agency employs over 4,000 people and serves more than 500,000 patrons on a typical weekday across Fulton County, DeKalb County, and Clayton County. Its mission is to provide safe, multimodal transit services that advance prosperity, connectivity, and equity for the region.
MARTA offers various fare programmes, including reduced fares for seniors, students, and people with disabilities, as well as employer partnership programmes. The agency continues to invest in capital projects, station rehabilitations, and expansion initiatives to enhance the rider experience.
