Pilgrim is a defense biotechnology startup based in Redwood City, California. It develops, validates and deploys battlefield-ready biotechnology for national security applications, with an explicit ambition to become what it calls "America's biology prime." Its work spans biodefense, military medicine and civilian medical applications.
Two products are named. ARGUS is a fully autonomous system for detecting biological threats in near real time, covering both naturally occurring pathogens and engineered agents. The company also develops hemostatic dressings, part of its work supporting military medicine and civilian use. Its technical reach is broad: mechanical and electrical engineering, chemistry, biology and autonomous hardware systems sit alongside biosensing and hemostatic materials.
The company describes itself as multidisciplinary, with engineering, chemistry and biology under one roof, and places weight on moving beyond theory to field-tested, deployable solutions. Work is framed around national security and the protection of military personnel.
Pilgrim has raised $7.55m in total: $3.25m at pre-seed and $4.3m at seed. Backers include Peter Thiel, Brian Armstrong, Fred Ehrsam and Dylan Field.
