STRS Ohio, the State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio, is a public pension fund established in 1920. It serves nearly 550,000 members, including active, inactive, and retired public-school teachers and university faculty in the state. As one of the largest retirement systems in the United States, it manages approximately $96.3 billion in assets and pays out more than $7 billion in annual benefits to its members.
The system offers three primary retirement plan options to Ohio's educators: a Defined Benefit Plan, a Defined Contribution Plan, and a Combined Plan designed for flexibility across different career stages. Its investment operations are substantial, with more than 100 professionals in the Investment Department managing nearly two-thirds of the fund's assets internally.
