The Ohio Education Association (OEA) is a labor union representing public school educators and staff across the state. Founded in 1847, it is the largest professional organization for educators in Ohio and operates as the state-level affiliate of the National Education Association. The OEA has approximately 122,000 members.
The organization provides collective bargaining, professional development, legal protection, and advocacy for its members. Its Professional Services division offers resources intended to benefit students, schools, and the public across the various positions needed to run Ohio's schools. The OEA is registered as a tax-exempt 501(c)(6) organization, a status it has held since 1967.
The OEA's advocacy includes positions on education policy, such as support for reduced class sizes, increased regulation of charter schools, and increased funding aligned with diversity, equity, and inclusion aims. The organization opposes right-to-work legislation.
